From 20th September onwards, the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card processing is simplified in the U.S.. This update has been routed through the reference of the Embassy of India in Washington D.C..
Previously, it was a two-step application process. But now, the applicant can directly fill the application online and upload the supporting documents at the Government of India website. Besides, the applicant will have no constraint over the consular jurisdiction. In simpler terms, one can apply for the OCI card from any Indian consular office in the USA.
At the same time, the NRI has to select the location from the Indian government website where she/he wants the application to be processed.
OCI Card Application Process:
- Visit the website-https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome
- Read all instructions carefully and click “Proceed”.
- Click “New OCI Registration” tab.
- Important Points:
- Fill both forms-Form A and B completely.
- Choose the correct location according to your address in India for jurisdiction.
- Take a print through a laser printer on the white, bond-quality and non-glossy paper.
- Paste your picture and sign where it is requisite.
- Avoid printing on both sides of the paper.
- Follow the specifications for photographs & signature.
- Press OK.
- Appropriately answer the question in the next widget.
- Click “Fresh Application” tab.
Uploading Supporting Document:
- Upload photographs and signature as per specifications on the government of India website.
- Important Points:
- Upload all requested documents.
- Save and upload later if you do not have them with you at that time.
Get Web Reference Number:
- As you complete all formalities, the New Web Reference Number will flash.
- Use this number on the CKGS website.
- Get registered with CKGS website.
- Track the status thereafter.

- Click on OCI application “Get Started” tab to begin a new OCI application process.
- Be ready with these details:
- Web Reference Number from the OCI Application Form
- Passport Number
- Date of Issue
- Date of Expiry
- City of Issue
- Country of Issue
- Detail of Current Citizenship
- Detail of Previous Nationality, if there is any
- Proof of Renunciation of Indian Citizenship
- What information you provide, that should be pertaining to the passport that will remain valid for the next six months from the date of application.
- Your passport should have at least 2 blank pages left.

Result Page
- Go through the checklist of the documents, forms and letters-original and photocopy to be attached.
- Download any of these documents according to your requirement:
- Parental Authorization Form
- Additional Particulars Form
- Affidavit in Lieu of Originals
- Pay OCI card fee online
- Check the processing time
- Save the CKGS number

- Important Points:
- Avoid sending it to the Mission.
- Send only 1 application per package.
- Its weight should not be more than 0.5 Lbs
- The shipping label to be pasted on the envelope should be provided by the CKGS.
- Avoid sending more than one application in an envelope.

- Make payment at the CKGS Application Center or enclose a Cashier/Bankers Check or Money Order in favour of “Cox & Kings Global Services USA LLC” together with application.
